Nationwide's Corporate Internet Marketing team is seeking a User Experience Design Specialist.
Collaborates with project teams to define and document site architecture, navigation elements, map user flows, and propose best practices in usability and interaction design based on a deep understanding of customer needs. Recommends innovative solutions that balance those customer needs with business viability and technical feasibility that provide an exceptional user experience, market differentiation, and efficiency improvements.
1. Provides technical input to project teams and/or product groups. Defines system scope and objectives based on user needs and understanding of applicable business systems and industry requirements. Performs business process analysis and needs assessments, aligning solutions with business goals and initiatives.
2. Documents user requirements; collaborates with content writers, graphic designers, coders, business representatives, and usability staff to conceptualize business design goals. Develops user cases and content metrics.
3. Participates in user testing, expert reviews and heuristic evaluations of product applications to gather user interface requirements. Creates project plans and manages resources, budgets, and timeline for project.
4. Produces site maps, process flow diagrams, wireframes and specifications documentation.
5. Works with web staff to develop editorial, graphics, style guides, pattern libraries, and other documentation. Conducts web architecture reviews develop best practices and procedures.
6. Maintains a basic knowledge of internet technologies, best practices, and trends.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, human-computer interaction, psychology, graphic design, information science, or related field.
Experience: Typically five years professional experience in the software or web site development, database and web technology, research, conducting usability testing, and user centered design processes. Masters degree may be substituted for experience as appropriate.
Knowledge: Software or website development, thorough knowledge of usability for the web, solid understanding of design for current web technologies. Knowledge of internet best practices and research principles. Insurance company operations and products, company organizational structure and general administrative policies, practices and procedures.
Skills and Competencies: Strong verbal and written communications skills. Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative information; can present findings concisely and effectively that may influence or have an impact on the company, as well as the customers, distribution systems, etc. Ability to work independently and effectively set work priorities, timeframes and accomplish a task in the most effective manner. Can work collaboratively with cross-functional teams (i.e. engineers, product managers, designers, etc.). Ability to maintain working knowledge and/or expertise in PC-based software programs, insurance/business concepts and assigned line of business as well as marketing and strategic planning concepts.

Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (Exempt)
Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Extended work hours may be necessary during work periods of heavier volume of work. Travel required as necessary.
