Interaction Designer

Salary: Flexible DOE + 20% bonus
A popular online retailer is searching for an Interaction Designer to determine how its interactive user interfaces should work and to create plans for team members for developing the graphical user interface, content and functionality of its Web site. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Information Architecture, the Interaction Designer will be involved in conception, design, specification and creative QA tasks. In addition, the Interaction Designer will consult with clients about their business goals and propose front-end architectural solutions and strategies that meet both users' and clients' needs.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting and participating in concept-generation activities, including the development of user profiles, user scenarios, organizational models, task models and feature lists
- Conducting and participating in project-definition activities, such as gathering business requirements, assessing site(s) and handling competitive analyses and secondary research
- Organizing site content and functionality by creating site blueprints and wireframes
- Creating identifiable nomenclature for users and navigation systems that support users' needs
- Analyzing, developing and refining user tasks and processes
- Collaborating with design and development teams to build user interfaces
- Working with other project team members to define methods to be used, including competitive audits and secondary research
- Creating process flows, site maps, wireframes and screen prototypes that will advance the company's merchandising, business, marketing, or branding objectives
- Presenting chosen design to project and business teams for review
- Producing highly accurate wireframe documentation and other specifications required to implement design
- Working with product manager and team to define documentation scope
- Ensuring that pages match wireframe specifications; looking for areas of the site that need improvement and driving changes
- Providing QA feedback to and consultation with HTML, PM and engineering teams prior to launch
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in HCI, Information Science, design disciplines, or other relevant field; or equivalent work experience)
- More than three years of experience in Web-based information architecture or interaction design, including the design of the overall IA of several sites
- Moderate-to-advanced transactional design experience
- Web design experience, including HTML and capabilities of Web browsers across multiple platforms and new technologies
- Experience in user research planning, observation and translating user research into design decisions
- Knowledge of Internet usability and user interface best practices as well as a background in information process, flow definition and improvement
- Exceptional experience making graphic and written presentations of information
- Solid expertise in Visio; experience with Word, Illustrator, Director, Photoshop, PowerPoint and various HTML editors will be helpful
- Experience in client services and negotiating business decisions
- Willing to take a leadership role in directing the user experience and to work very collaboratively with all members of the project team
- Flexible, highly organized, with very good project-management skills; able to recommend priorities for projects
